Our Mission

Andson is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Educational Organization founded in 2009 to provide financial literacy education to children and young adults. Through Andson, Openvest was born. More and more states require personal finance classes before graduation, but many schools lack a well-developed curriculum and often have few resources. Openvest is here to fill that need and provide your school or classroom with comprehensive financial literacy education.

Openvest teaches students about personal finance and gives them the necessary skills for becoming financially secure adults. Learning these skills at an early age directly affects students' future economic well-being. When children and young adults practice making financial decisions from a young age, they form the foundation of sound money practices that will carry on into adulthood.

Working in the financial industry, I realized people fall into debt traps early on. I thought that if we teach high school kids before they go off to college, then we’re going to save the world. We soon realized that the problem starts before high school. So we started going backward. We got to middle school and sixth grade and realized half of the students didn’t know basic math and language. So we’ve taken it all the way back to kindergarten.”

— Sonia Anderson, Founder of Andson

Since 2016 we have been providing financial literacy lessons in the classrooms. Teachers, parents, or volunteers can teach our curriculum. We feel that getting content into the hands of adults, with minimum training required, is the best way to serve every student in every classroom.

The curriculum includes eight in-class or virtual financial literacy lessons that meet State, National, and Common Core standards for 1st through 5th grade. Every lesson includes printed materials for in-class activities and instructions on how to use the virtual lessons.
